The upstairs theatre and downstairs Mabuhay Gardens have distinct histories.
1970s–1980s
The building’s downstairs Mabuhay Gardens became a landmark of San Francisco’s punk scene, with performances by the Dead Kennedys, Blondie and the Ramones. That history belongs to the downstairs room, distinct from the upstairs theatre.

The Mab, the separate ground-floor venue at 443 Broadway, has step-free wheelchair access and is 21+. Upstairs at 435 Broadway is reached by stairs. There is no step-free route or elevator to the upstairs venue.
