More than a century of gathering

Built for people to come together.

The best part of a historic venue is what it brings to your own gathering: a room with character, a stage with a story, and a setting that feels connected to the city.

1919

Community at the beginning.

Garibaldi Hall began as an Italian community gathering place. Its purpose was simple: bring people into the same room.

1945

A Filipino community home.

The Caballeros de Dimas-Alang acquired the building, opening a chapter as the Dimas-Alang Temple and a home for Filipino community life.

1959

Poetry in North Beach.

Upstairs poetry benefits brought writers including Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Bob Kaufman into the hall.

1962

The On Broadway Theatre.

The upstairs room opened as the On Broadway Theatre. Productions including Under the Yum-Yum Tree and Evolution of the Blues became part of its theatrical story.

The Fab Mab

An independent spirit downstairs.

On the ground floor, Ness Aquino’s Mabuhay Gardens became a landmark of San Francisco punk and independent music. Upstairs theatre and downstairs music gave the building two distinct cultural lives.

Make the story yours

Your people. Your moment on stage.

Today, that same building hosts team gatherings, private dinners, weddings, fundraisers and celebrations. The theatre’s balcony, stage and warm interiors give you a setting with its own character, ready for the atmosphere you want to create.
